In his book, Winne brings to the forefront the issues of hunger and food insecurity that persist in America today, despite this country’s great affluence. On June 19th, the Mayor's office invited the residents of Nashville to send their inputs and comments to the Green Ribbon Committee via survey. Only 5% of respondents have indicated that their top priority is increasing the availability of locally-grown and organic foods in Nashville.

Read More »July 12, 2008Innovative experts from across the southeast meet for an intensive food systems training The 2nd annual training is offered by the Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group and hosted by Food Security Partners of Middle Tennessee. Food will be provided by Turnip Truck, Jim N’ Nicks, the Veggie Café, and Whole Foods Market Green Hills. The training will be held at Abintra Montessori School July 21st through July 23rd. June 11, 2008Veggie Project Farmers' Markets Start Today! The Veggie Project is a summer program that aims to address issues of childhood obesity, family nutrition and food security issues in Nashville’s underserved communities. Specifically, four Boys and Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee (BGCMT) and their surrounding communities will participate and benefit from the program this summer. April 18, 2008Free Nashville Film Festival Screening of “Heart & Soil” Kicks off Earth Day WeekendNASHVILLE, Tenn. – April 10, 2008 -- HEART & SOIL, a 45-minute family documentary about the importance of small scale farming, will kick off Earth Day weekend in Nashville with a free screening at the Nashville Film Festival, Friday April 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Regal Green Hills Cinemas.
Filmmaker Mara LeGrand, along with Cassi Johnson from Food Security Partners, Hank Delvin from Delvin Farms and Henry Herbert or Jolie Yockey from Whole Foods Market, will be present for a Q & A and panel discussion following the screening.
